Soh Daiko Recital
Date & Time: 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 6th, 2015
Venue: New York Buddhist Church, 332 Riverside Drive, New York, NY, 10025-3421
Soh Daiko has been drumming underground since 1979.
Right aboveground is the New York Buddhist Church, serving the New York community since 1938. We are lucky to be a part of this community; the Church not only supports our troupe, but also provides us with one of New York City’s rarest commodities: a space to store and play our taiko.
To celebrate our ongoing connection with this community, Soh Daiko is happy to put on a recital in the Hondo for the public, with all suggested donations to directly benefit the New York Buddhist Church. This is a chance to see us perform before our spring performance season starts off, and to see the hard work we have been putting into our training. Moreover, it is an opportunity to see the progress of our latest batch of trainees, as well as a showcase from the NYBC kids taiko class, taught by Soh Daiko alumnus and legend Teddy Yoshikami. This concert is the second of what we hope to be an annual showcase of works in our home for our closest fans.
This recital also will start a crowd funded effort to raise funds for renovations done in the church. In a long standing plan to improve the building, the bathrooms of the basement dojo are being redone. Not only will the bathrooms be much more pleasant for the public to visit, but fixing the showers will help us leave practice a bit more pleasant when we visit the public.
So please come enjoy our show, enjoy the New York Buddhist Church, and help us support the organization and building that has been supporting us for all these years. Seating is Limited and available on a first-come first-serve basis. Soh Daiko’s performances are supported in part by New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
